Clemson FCA is a non-profit, non-denominational student-led ministry on the campus of Clemson University. Through FCA, students can come together to worship, serve, and fellowship with one another. Through FCA, I have been able to meet others who are both similar to and different from me in various ways, and have been allowed the opportunity to serve others, both on Clemson's campus and in the city of New Orleans, LA.
For Spring Break of my freshman year, Clemson FCA took a group of 600 students to the city of New Orleans, LA to serve in various places in the city. I was placed on a team with 13 other college students who worked together to aid the Boys and Girls Club of Louisiana for four days. Our responsibilities consisted of sweeping the facility each day, cleaning the bathrooms, and completing other various tasks to get ready for the elementary school students who stayed at the facility after school until their parents picked them up. Once the kids arrived, our team talked with them, tutored them, and played games with them. The days that we weren't serving at the Boys and Girls Club, we visited the 9th Ward in New Orleans that sustained much damage after Hurricane Katrina. Through this trip to New Orleans, I gained a better appreciation for those who have been affected by natural disasters and other hardships, furthering my desire to use my career to make an impact on my community by assisting others to the best of my ability.
